In February we bought a VW panel van. It looked like this:

Now, after a couple of months of hard work, head-scratching and swearing, it looks like this:

But the inside looks like this:

Right now we are in Galloway in south-west Scotland after a ten-day shakedown tour of the Highlands. Everything in the van worked, nothing fell off except the exhaust, and after a couple of days unpacking, throwing things away and repacking we are heading south to catch the ferry to France via Wales and Cornwall.

The law in Scotland means you can park and camp pretty much anywhere in the open countryside. Our first night on the shore of Loch Leven gave us this view from our window.
We also took the ferry to the Isle of Skye for a couple of nights. Ours is the white van on the left.

Next morning the same place…

Also on Skye in the south of the island at Loch Brittle….

Further north the beach at Achmelvich on the west coast,

And then on the other side in the Cairngorms….

Finally, a couple of words about midges. They are also known as ‘minges’ up here. You can make up your own jokes.

  1. Wow- the van is amazing!! No wonder it took so long to do- it's great!! Best transit I've ever seen!

What happened to our wee visit in Glasgvegas?! :-)

Safe travels southwards! Will be keeping an eye on the blog for updates!
